HOME + AWAY: A Year of Conversations on the Local and Global

INFORMAL CONVERSATIONS WITH FINE + APPLIED ARTS FACULTY

What does it mean for a people, an aesthetic, a designed product or building to belong to a particular place? As cities work to build their distinctive brands, the people in those cities bring objects and art with them that defy identification in any one geographic location. Where larger cities once represented crucial nodes for artistic identity and creativity, for many, distinctions between center and periphery just don’t hold today. This year, our Uncorked + On Topic series will visit these topics in the context of a variety of disciplines. Together we’ll enjoy some time for reflection on what the materials we live with and study every day have to say about the vast world through which they move.
