Applicants to the University of Illinois School of Art + Design fall into four categories: Freshman, Transfer, Intercollege Transfer, and Graduate. Freshman

All freshman Art + Design students apply to one of the following majors in the College of Fine and Applied Arts: Art Education, Art and Art History, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Photography, Studio Art (BA), or Studio Art (BFA). Studio Art concentrations (general studio art, new media, painting, printmaking, and sculpture) are declared by March 1 in the first year of study. Undecided students apply to Art Undeclared. Art Undeclared students will declare their Art + Design major by March 1 of their first year of study. First-year coursework for all students will include courses in drawing, 2D, 3D, and 4D practices.

Transfer

Transfers from another university or college apply to one of the School of Art + Design's BFA degree programs: Art Education, Art and Art History, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Photography, Studio Art (BA), or Studio Art (BFA). Intercollege Transfer

Intercollege transfer is the process of transferring from one college to another within the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Students apply to one of the following majors in the College of Fine and Applied Arts: Art Education, Art and Art History, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Photography, Studio Art (BA), or Studio Art (BFA). Graduate

The Graduate Program of the School of Art + Design at the University of Illinois is committed to training artists, designers, educators, critics, curators, and historians of visual art and culture at the highest professional levels. Applicants apply directly to one of the School of Arts + Design's degree programs.
