Alumnus Ron Laboray in the 2026 Venice Biennale

April 9, 2026

Alumnus Ron Laboray (BFA 1996 Painting) will participate in the 2026 Venice Biennale, as part of Nauru’s inaugural national pavilion, AIM — Imagining Life After Land.

His installation, Disappearance as Perceptual Inquiry, brings together two large-scale drawings and a continuous program of animation, forming a three-wall environment. The drawings develop layered symbolic systems—drawing on scientific diagrams, cultural symbols, and references to popular music—to examine how meaning is constructed and eroded under conditions of extraction and globalization.

The animated component, developed through Little Richard’s Almanac, consists of narrative, surreal music-based works that introduce a temporal and sonic dimension within the installation.
