Molly Briggs published "Immersion in Print: Design, Sensory Reading, and Spatial Imaginaries in Nineteenth-Century Chorography" (Appearances series, De Gruyter Oldenbourg, Berlin).
This book traces the early modern development and 19th-c. proliferation of immersive rhetorics in place maps that marshaled word, image, and material affordance to produce subjective orientation. The book intervenes in debates on intermediality, reproduction, and the material life of images by repositioning printed place maps and related ephemera as media environments that helped naturalize contested visions of sovereignty, territory, and belonging in Europe and the United States
