Eve Sonneman Exhibits at Brill Gallery
The exhibition will include a signed vintage print of Sight/Sound. Only five exist, and the others are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the artist. Also in the show will be important diptychs and watercolors from the 1970s to 2018, including some that were in the highly regarded Starburst exhibition at the Princeton University Art Museum in 2010.
Sonneman’s diptychs are the pairings of two images, taken just moments apart, that offer a unique narrative photographic experience meant to capture the viewer’s imagination and the story. Sonneman is also known for her Polaroid Sonnegrams, large abstract paintings, and watercolors. Her photographs are also at the Centre Pompidou; the Art Institute of Chicago; the Menil Collection; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; and more than 30 other museums around the world. She has published five books including Where Birds Live (Random House, 1992) and How to Touch What (Powerhouse, 2000).
