Art & Design Internships

The Art +/ Design + Internship Program is a year-long, paid opportunity for current Art & Design students to gain hands-on experience in design for public engagement, exhibition, and institutional identity.

Design + Internship

Focus: Exhibition & Spatial Design
Open to: Art & Design Students

Interns in the Design + track will lead the redesign of the display cases on the bottom floor of the A&D building, transforming them into dynamic showcases of student work and departmental identity.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conceptualizing and prototyping display layouts
  • Designing signage, typography, and visual elements
  • Exploring materials, lighting, and fabrication
  • Documenting and presenting design processes

Art + Internship

Focus: Outward-Facing Visual Identity & Engagement
Open to: Art & Design Students

Art + interns will focus on designing for the school’s public-facing image and student engagement.

Responsibilities include:

  • Vinyl graphics for building entrances
  • Large-scale exhibition signage for BFA/MFA shows (e.g., banners suspended from the roof)
  • Social media content creation for school events
  • Student engagement videos and promotional campaigns
  • Designing school swag (stickers, apparel, giveaways)

Interns will collaborate closely with Student Engagement Ambassadors and receive mentorship from industry professionals, gaining real-world insight into design strategy, branding, and audience engagement.

Internship Details and Application

Internship Commitment

  • 4 hours per week
  • September 2025 – May 2026
  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate academic workload
  • Weekly meetings with faculty mentor to review current projects.

Compensation

  • Paid internship/ minimum wage
  • Access to fabrication labs, media equipment, and professional mentorship (once proper training has been completed)

Who Should Apply

  • Current Art & Design undergraduate students in the School of Art & Design
  • Strong interest in exhibition design, branding, public engagement, or visual storytelling
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, reliable and curious.
