Art History Grants and Fellowships

The program in art history provides Teaching Assistantships to all qualified students. Other Grants and Fellowships are also available, including: 

Krannert Art Museum Research Fellowship (in European Art before 1900)

Krannert Art Museum Research Fellowship (in European Art before 1900) -This 9-month fellowship supports a student in the M.A. Program or Ph.D. Program in Art History with expertise or interest in European art before 1900. In addition to pursuing their own coursework and research, the fellow gains experience with a full range of curatorial activities at the Krannert Art Museum under the direction of Dr. Maureen Warren, curator of European and American art; the fellow spends 10-12 hours/week on work for the museum. The fellowship is awarded on a yearly basis and offers $20,000 over a 9-month period and a full tuition waiver.

Illinois Distinguished Fellowship

Illinois Distinguished Fellowship – Students may not apply for this fellowship but are nominated by faculty during the application review process. Nominated students will be notified by the faculty. The fellowship offers three years of support and provides a $25,000 annual stipend and full tuition waiver.

Illinois Distinguished Graduate Fellowship in the Humanities and Arts

Illinois Distinguished Graduate Fellowship in the Humanities and Arts –  Students may not apply for this fellowship but are nominated by faculty during the application review process. Nominated students will be notified by the faculty. The fellowship offers three years of support and provides a $25,000 annual stipend and full tuition waiver.

Graduate College Merit Fellowship

Graduate College Merit Fellowship – Students may not apply for this fellowship but are nominated by faculty during the application review process. Nominated students will be notified by the faculty. The Graduate College’s Doctoral Merit Fellowship (DMF) program helps sustain the academic excellence and inclusiveness of the Illinois graduate community, one that embraces students with diverse experiences and goals and who come from many educational, socio-cultural, geographic, and familial backgrounds. The fellowship offers three years of support and provides a $25,000 annual stipend and full tuition waiver.
