We are very sad to share the news of the passing of three inspirational former colleagues who made major contributions to the School of Art + Design during their tenure as professors. They had significant impact as influential educators and in their chosen professions during their time at Illinois and long after retiring from the university.
Professor Emeritus Harry Breen (Art Education) joined our faculty in 1959 and retired in 1985. He was instrumental in beginning the Saturday Morning Art School offered to the community. Read his obituary.
Professor Emeritus Don Frith (Crafts) joined our faculty in 1952 and retired in 1989. He was the chair of Crafts for many years and created the University of Illinois Craft Guild. His definitive book Mold Making for Ceramics (1985) is still in use today. Read his obituary or read about his work.
