Advertising Education: Inclusive Design and Digital Inclusion.
Inclusive design has profoundly shaped digital media, influencing content creation, delivery, and user experience. This impact includes the development of accessibility standards, user-centered design, and a commitment to diversity and representation, alongside practices like multi-modal content, responsive design, captioning, assistive technologies, and regulatory compliance. These advances align with the principles of digital inclusion which emphasizes access to affordable broadband, internet-enabled devices, digital literacy, technical support, and content that fosters self-sufficiency and collaboration. As these concepts increasingly influence digital media industries, the need for inclusive advertising becomes critical. However, many university advertising curricula lack integration of inclusive design principles. My research explores the integration of these principles into advertising education, identifying challenges and opportunities for preparing students to create culturally sensitive, inclusive, and impactful campaigns.
