About Dr. Buttery
bio
Dr. Hollie Buttery received her PhD from the Department of History of Art and Architecture at Harvard University in 2025. Specializing in early modern Italian drawings, her doctoral research examined the role of caricatures and doodles in artistic pedagogy in late sixteenth-century Bologna. Buttery’s research investigates the role of the gendered, sexed, and racialized body in spaces of artistic learning and patronage. She has previously held fellowships at I Tatti (The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies) and the Morgan Library & Museum. She has taught as an adjunct at the University of Rhode Island (2024) and as a Visiting Assistant Lecturer at the University of St Andrews (2022–23).
