Steven Hudson

Bio

Steven Hudson is an artist and educator living in Champaign, Illinois. He has a BFA from Southeastern Massachusetts University and an MFA from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Hudson is a painter based in Chicago, where he has had numerous solo exhibits. Hudson’s work is widely collected and is in the collections of the Rockford Art Museum in Rockford, Illinois, and Krannert Art Museum in Champaign as well as notable private collections. Steven Hudson’s artwork has been reviewed nationally and internationally, including reviews in ARTnews, New American Paintings, and the Chicago Tribune. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the National Endowment for the Arts/Arts Midwest Individual Artist Grant and the Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Individual Artist Grant.

Hudson’s work navigates the space of an imagined postapocalypse, depicting a remnant human presence that navigates a bleak landscape. The people and animals exist without direction or purpose among the familiar debris of our time. The work forebodes our current environmental annihilation. Hudson seeks to record a sometimes beautiful but always melancholy portrait of human vulnerability in the epic tradition of oil painting. Steven Hudson is currently a Teaching Assistant Professor in the School of Art + Design at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
