The Design of a New Design School in the South
Throughout the 20th century, many design schools were created. Normally, they had as their starting point the western dichotomy between art (architecture) and technique (engineering). In 2004, in southern Brazil, a new design school was created using a new perspective: a strategic vision of design. In partnership with POLI.design of the Milan Polytechnic, some concepts such as metadesign and product service systems served to reflect on how to bring design culture to organizations and thus influence their strategies. The university that created this new school—Unisinos—is an example of strategic transformation guided by design. Because it is guided by design, it is not a linear process, well controlled and with well-defined problems. This process is the theme of this presentation.
