Storywork: Impression Performance and Conversation with the Artist
Abstract:
Storywork: Impression is an immersive, experimental, and collaborative exploration of Storywork: The Prints of Marie Watt from the Collections of Jordan Schnitzer and his Family Foundation in partnership with University Galleries, University of San Diego that combines dance, printmaking, writing, drawing, and live projection. Participants are invited to experience the images, themes, materials, and stories of the exhibition and share their own stories and images in an ephemeral and enduring response to the exhibition. Following the performance, a conversation with the artist and open printmaking will take place in the KAM Cafe.
Bio:
Irene Hsiao is a dancer, writer, and multidisciplinary artist. She creates performances in conversation with visual art in museums, galleries, and public spaces, a practice that includes site-specific interaction with visual artworks and experimental engagement with artists, institutions, and the public. Her work includes durational improvisation, interactive installations, film, and virtual performance. She was a 2022-23 Fellow at High Concept Labs, and an artist in residence at 21c Museum Hotel, the Smart Museum of Art, and Chicago Dancemakers Forum Lab. She has performed at Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago Textile Week, Millennium Park, and Ragdale Foundation; screened her films in the Tiny Dance Film Festival, Pivot Arts Festival, and the Midwest Regional Alternative Dance Festival. Her writing on theater, dance, science, art, and literature appeared in the Chicago Reader, Chicago Sun-Times, LA Review of Books, Newcity, SF Weekly, and more. She has published her poetry and book of photography Letter from Taipei.
