Self-portraiture, body positivity, bodily autonomy, social media, and sexual desire
Paint is the love of my life. Mixing it, loading a brush or scooping it onto a knife, sliding it across a surface, shaping it, finding the contrasts I desire, changing my mind and covering previous strokes… it is a process that makes me feel whole. Since 2019 I have been using nude self-portraiture to explore the beauty of my fat body. After decades of unsuccessful attempts to lose weight I found myself with extremely low self-worth. I began redefining my definition of beauty by studying my figure for the purpose of capturing it in paint. This work has changed my life and given me the desire to build a future for myself, leaving those who don’t appreciate me as I am behind.
