Samantha’s work addresses perceptions of Black identity and culture, as well as social justice and economic equity for marginalized communities. Her past work has been inspired by historically Black objects and colloquialisms such as Afro picks, skillets, and hair braiding. Her current work focuses on the exploitation and commodification of the Black female body through found and self made objects. The objects will be sold and packaged as products, furthering the artists vision of a Afro-futuristic environment where those who are marginalized are uplifted by claiming the profit from their own commodification, furthering her belief that the only way to create racial equity is by seizing the means of production, especially when it is ourselves that are the product.
