Education Policy, Organization and Leadership
Victor A. Ruiz-Divas is a master’s student in the Art Education program at the University of Illinois School of Art & Design. He is also a doctoral student in the Education Policy, Organization, & Leadership program at the University of Illinois College of Education. Victor’s research, teaching, and service coalesces around his interconnecting interests in Arts Education, Urban Education, and the Arts & Social Change. His current research looks at the impacts of current art education policy(ies) on the experiences of students attending predominantly Black and Latine urban public high schools in the Midwestern United States. His work examines access, equity, and the availability of robust arts programs in these schools through the personal experiences of students and teachers by connecting three elements of arts education. These are material availability and selection (what is available?), content (what are student’s exposed to?), and school procedures (how are schools developing art programs?).
