About Alan Mette
Bio
Professor Alan Mette joined the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1981, serving as assistant, associate, and full professor, as well as executive associate director of Art + Design. He has significant leadership experience with A+D, serving as chair of the Foundations Program and Studio Arts Division as well as co-chair of the Metals program.
He holds a BS in Art from Wayne State University, an MA in Art Education from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and an MFA in Studio Art from Michigan State University.
Professor Mette’s service to the College of Fine and Applied Arts has also been substantial. In addition to serving as Interim Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, he has been an active member of search, communications, promotion and tenure, grievance, and disciplinary committees. Mette served as a 2015-16 Fellow in the Academic Leadership Program, Big 10 Academic Alliance, formerly known as the CIC-ALP and is currently serving on the Executive Committee for the Siebel Center for Design.
He became the Director of the School of Art + Design in June 2015.
