STEM-Classified Degree Boosts Value
Our Master of Design degree is STEM-designated. Students who graduate with a STEM-designated degree typically earn more than graduates with a non-STEM degree. When studying and conducting research within a STEM-designated degree program, students are able to experience hands-on learning opportunities that will prepare them for real-world application. Working in studios, collaborating on projects, and conducting research are just some of the opportunities that STEM students get to experience when completing their degree.
The MDes program has been instrumental in preparing me for my future career. Through my coursework, I’ve gained a comprehensive understanding of the entire product development process, from initial sketching to final model making, and have learned how to present my models more effectively. This hands-on experience has been incredibly valuable. Furthermore, the faculty at the School of Art and Design have been very supportive of my growth. During the first semester, the professors across different courses provided a blend of theory and design practice, which has deepened my understanding of industrial design.
Faculty whose work redefines what design can do for people and the planet.
Our faculty are award-winning designers, researchers, and makers who bridge creative vision with practical innovation. They lead projects that connect design with technology, sustainability, and social impact. Faculty expertise spans emerging technologies, human-centered design, sustainability and social innovation, design strategy and futures thinking, and advanced prototyping and fabrication.
Because the cohort is relatively small, the faculty can give a lot of individual support. Professors are patient, encouraging, and very involved in students’ learning journeys. I recommend this program to students who value both design theory and making. If you want the best of both worlds in a supportive and resource-rich environment, this program is a great choice.
